Copywriting

We interview you, then write the pages in your voice. What you get back is text you could have said out loud, not filler around a keyword.

Overview

What this is

The short version, before we get into what is included and how it runs.

Most small business websites fail on the words rather than the design. The pages say a company is passionate about quality and committed to excellence, which is what every competitor also says, and a visitor leaves knowing nothing they did not know before they arrived.

We start by talking to the person who does the work. What a job actually involves, what goes wrong, what a customer asks on the phone, what you refuse to do and why. That conversation is the raw material. The writing turns it into pages someone can read quickly and act on.

This is a service you can buy on its own. If your site is fine and the words are the problem, we will rewrite the words and leave the site alone.

Deliverables

What you get

Everything below is part of copywriting as standard, rather than something added to the invoice later.

Interview
An hour or two, recorded, with whoever knows the work. This is where the page comes from. A questionnaire emailed over and filled in at midnight produces a page that reads like a questionnaire.
Page outline
What each page has to do and in what order, agreed before anyone writes a paragraph. Cheaper to argue about a heading than a finished draft.
Service pages
One page per thing you sell, written so a person can tell within a few lines whether it is the thing they came for.
The about page
Usually the second most visited page on a small business site and usually the last one written. We treat it as a sales page, because that is what it is.
Headlines and buttons
The handful of words people actually read. A button that says Submit and a headline about digital solutions are both a decision not to say anything.
Metadata
Title and description per page, written to earn the click rather than to repeat the heading. This is where copywriting and search work meet.
One revision round
Consolidated comments, one pass. Endless rounds are how writing gets worse: the draft with an opinion becomes the draft nobody objects to.
A short style note
How you refer to yourselves, what you call the services, the words you never use. So the next page anyone writes still sounds like the site.

Process

How it works

In order. Each stage starts once the one before it is signed off.

  1. 01

    Interview

We record a conversation with whoever does the work, and we ask the questions a customer would ask on the phone.

  2. 02

    Outline

What each page has to do, in order, agreed before drafting. This is the cheap moment to change your mind.

  3. 03

    Draft

Pages written and delivered together, so you can see the whole site read as one voice rather than approve it a page at a time.

  4. 04

    Revise and hand over

One consolidated round, then the final text plus a short note on how to keep it consistent.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

If yours is not here, use the contact form and we will answer it directly.

Do you write it, or do we?

We write it. This service exists because the answer used to be that someone at your end had to. We still need an hour of your time for the interview, because the useful parts of a page are things only you know, but you are not being handed a blank document and a deadline.

Can we buy copywriting without a new website?

Yes, and it is often the better order. New words on an existing site frequently outperform a redesign wrapped around the old ones. If the site can be edited, we hand over the text; if we are already hosting it, we can put it in for you.

Will you use AI to write it?

No. A model can only recombine what is already published about your trade, which is exactly the material that makes small business websites interchangeable. The value of your page is the specific thing you know and your competitor does not. We use recordings and notes from the interview.

Is this SEO copywriting?

The pages are written to be found, and the titles and headings are structured with that in mind, because we do the search work too. What we will not do is write for a keyword density target. A page stuffed to rank tends to read badly, and reading badly is also a ranking problem now.

What if we do not like the draft?

Tell us plainly, at the outline stage if possible. A draft rarely misses because of the sentences; it misses because we agreed the wrong shape. That is why the outline is a separate step you sign off.

How much does it cost?

Most websites start around $3,000 for a straightforward build and land between there and $15,000, depending on the page count, how much writing is involved, and anything the site has to do beyond displaying information. Custom applications with accounts, payments or a database behind them are scoped and priced separately, because they are software rather than pages. You get a range in writing after discovery, before anything starts.

Tell us what you need built.

No pitch deck and no discovery fee. Most engagements start with a single site, and we add the rest only when it earns its place.
